Ami Trivedi Ji in Ahmedabad for Ganesha Chaturthi

‘WOULD LOVE TO DO HINDI FILMS SOME DAY’
Says vivacious telly star Ami Trivedi in a freewheeling chat with Ahmedabad Times.

Interviewed by Nidhin M Patel.

It’s almost midnight. Being a TV actress, she’s finished long hours of shooting in Mumbai before presenting herself for a festive celebration in Ahmedabad, and soon after she’d return to Mumbai so she doesn’t miss on her calltime on sets of popular laugh riots Papad Pol or Sajan Re Jhooth Mat Bolo. But though, as she chats, known television and theatre actress, Ami Trivedi, sounded as chirpy as her character Kokila

Where most television stars find it difficult to manage one serial properly, how does she manage to act in two? “Because I am a workaholic and work is my passion,” Ami says adding, “I love being in front of camera, I love being on screen, I love acting. So yes, as it gets physically tiresome, it also is the mental rejuvenation for me and stress accounts to zero at the end of the day.”
Ami is the daughter of Gujarati theater veteran Tushar Trivedi. She almost grew up on theatre and in front of camera. Ami says, “It has always been advantageous for me. Initially people knew me as Tusharbhai’s daughter only. I was all pampered and spoiled. Acting is in my genes and I learnt to never get carried away by fame.”
From theatre to television and even as voice-over artist, Ami had already seen the life of a child star before becoming a leading lady on small screen. Ask her about all these experiences and she says modestly, “I won’t say as a child star,” and adds, “But yes, as a child, the biggest pulling factor was fame as you hardly understand anything else. Gradually as I grew up, I discovered that theatre is my real space.”
So doesn’t she miss being on stage now? Ami says, “Always. But it’s acting that matters for me at the end of the day. When I am doing television, I miss theatre and vice-versa. But I have neither left theatre nor I will. Theatre will always be where I was born as an actor.” Ask her about doing a film and she says, “I have been saying that television is as big as Bollywood now. People treat us with much love and affection. If given a good opportunity, I will surely work in movies however I am pretty happy even being on TV.”
She has been part of many saas-bahu sagas before opting for the comedy genre, how she would compare both the genres? “Both have their own place. Saas-bahu sagas are as popular as comedy-shows. On the personal front, I’m enjoying myself thoroughly being part of comedy genre right now.”
And how difficult or easy to have a life partner who is not from the industry? Ami says, “Being a non-industry person, he understands me more than anyone. It was because of him that I accepted Papad Pol. He copes up with my long working hours quite nicely.” And with that she signs off as she gets ready to leave for the airport.
